CrossCurrents Dance Company continues to gather the compelling stories of emerging choreographers. We actively seek young artists who have not had the ability to produce their work in a professional realm.CrossCurrents gives them the resources, rehearsal space, and critical perspective to guide and nurture their unique vision. Artistic Director Debra Kanter brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion onto the stage. The dance company is committed to a collaborative vision that is a cross-pollination of people and their stories. With roots firmly planted in the metropolitan DC community, the company is driven by the transformative power of dance and are dedicated to the production of concerts of high artistic caliber. The dancers of CrossCurrents Dance Company range in age from 21 to 51. They represent a diverse and rich pool of talent, knowledge, and life experiences. In both the creation of new dances and in their outreach program, these dancers provide an outstanding resource which enhances the artistic and cultural life of the Washington area. CrossCurrents’ commissioning of new choreography reflects a commitment to the stories that are told by vibrant artists who live and work in this community. Over the years, guest choreographers, including Meisha Bosma, Daniel Burkholder, Gesel Mason, Alvin Mayes, and Cathy Paine have created original dances for CrossCurrents Dance Company.
